Concept: Sawyer had been flying drones for some time. His Dad wanted to give him a drone training experience as a Christmas gift and contacted us to make it happen. As it turned out Grey, Sawyer's friend wanted to do it as well. So we arranged a two-days of deep drone training experience for the two of them in one of Washington's most beautiful regions.
The Plan: Had a few parts ... Introductory Training; Three Missions over two days each with 2-4 sites; interspersed with sharing sessions. Each training mission built foundational skills of growing complexity and shooting in the wild to practice in the real world.
Actual Training: We learned during introductions that one pilot had never had his drone out of the box and wasn't legal. We got him legal, got his controller bound to his drone, and then taught beginner drone maneuvers to both pilots. Next morning, we were up before dawn to visit 3 sites in the early morning light. They flew under our supervision while we coached them on flight techniques. In the afternoon, after lunch and a rest, we flew three more sites on into the evening. They had mastered basic drone flight so we began to teach advanced flight techniques and began to teach cinematography skills. Second morning we flew 3 more sites and practiced advanced flight, photography and videography techniques. By now, they were largely independent of us and could really show off what they learned.
Results: Both pilots had a blast. They went home with material for great demo reels and dozens of stories about abandoned barns, crop dusters, windmills, canola and wheat fields, and just a bit of Americana. These two pilots were delightful human beings, smart, quick studies, funny, and serious about learning as fast as we could teach. We will treasure our time teaching drone flying lessons with them.

Sky Safari Drones provided excellent introductory training. Going through controller and drone settings made me so much more confident. Flying practice patterns improved my stick and rudder skills. Then flying by myself under their supervision really honed my practical mastery of drone flight. I now feel ready to use my drone in my business for inspection. THANKS!
I am new to drones and was anxious about flying. Chuck was an excellent instructor. He was patient and adapted his teaching to the things I most wanted to learn. He emphasized safety and helped me feel safe. And he made it fun. I feel so much more confident now and feel like I can practice on my own to build my skills. I look forward to taking the next, more advanced, class from him soon. Thank you very much!
Initially, I wasn't sure I'd get a lot out of this training. But a brief introduction to flight drills prepped me for more advanced flight dynamics: Waypoints; Follow-me; 1, 2, 3, & 4-axis flight; and true cinematorgaphy. I now know I can put my drone exactly where I want it in the sky, and precisely film the subjects I'm interested in. This was just great!
My wife and I have had some drone flying experience but as photographers we wanted to up our game with a camera that flies. The real world day trip we took to Satsop really elevated our skills. Flying in the wild taught us so much practical stuff and really built our confidence. They also helped us "get legal" which is a great load off my mind. We ended up filling a camera card with tons of material for a great demo reel. Big fun! Couldn't have been better!
